Even with their remarkable craftsmanship and unique aesthetic values, many Japanese artists are often misrepresented in the international market, or even lack access to overseas opportunities due to the language barrier. We have long been attracted by Bizen Pottery and its natural beauty and cultural values. Frequently visiting the village, we came to hear how Bizen artists have suffered from such difficulties and that they are common among many artists across Japan: overseas importers often sell Bizen Pottery at a price more than double that in Japan, but artists are not rewarded with the additional profits. At the same time, high prices with excessive margins hinder artists reaching customers. In founding Genso in 2021, we are aspiring to spread Japanese culture worldwide, as well as support Japanese artists.
