SASHIKO & SHIBORI WORKSHOP with EMI FUJISAWA

£0.00

Join Japanese textile artist Emi Fujisawa for a workshop in the two Japanese techniques Sashiko (stitching), and Shibori (resist dyeing), to make a very special tea towel from a vintage piece of cloth. You will transform the piece of cloth into a beautiful indigo dyed tea towel, with a special resist pattern of a flower or leaf — to bring home to your kitchen.

Sashiko is an old Japanese craft technique traditionally used to decorate clothing and homewares, and Shibori is a very inventive 1500 year old art technique. Apart from learning these techniques you will also be introduced to dyeing with indigo.

Tea will be served while you’re working away with your stitching.

Emi Fujisawa is a textile artist and designer based in Oxfordshire. Her speciality is weaving and plant dye techniques. Emi also designs and makes slow fashion garments from vintage and antique fabrics, organic new cotton and linen, as well as her own woven pieces — all in natural fibre. Emi is currently in the process of setting up a studio of Japanese Indigo Dyeing, under direct instructions from her master in Japan. In addition to her textile work, Emi also works with ceramics, for which she uses her own glazing.
